Master in Media and Communication Management, Part-time (1½ year)


The MA in Media and Communication Management at CBS offers an academically rigorous and professionally oriented engagement with contemporary media and communication environments. The program examines how media systems, strategic communication practices, and emerging technologies intersect within institutional, commercial, and societal contexts. Core areas include strategic communication, public relations and branding, media regulation and ethics, digital platforms, artificial intelligence in media, and audience engagement, with particular emphasis on how communication is planned, governed, and managed within complex media ecosystems.

Designed for graduates seeking both conceptual depth and applied expertise, the MA combines theoretical foundations in media and communication studies with professionally relevant approaches to communication management. Through research-led teaching, case-based analysis, and applied projects, participants develop advanced analytical, strategic, and professional competencies applicable to careers in media organisations, communication agencies, public institutions, and related sectors, as well as to further academic research. The curriculum supports critical engagement with current challenges including digital transformation, platform governance, reputational risk, and ethical responsibility in communication practice.

Program’s Objectives

The MA in Media and Communication Management aims to provide graduates with advanced theoretical knowledge and applied expertise in the analysis, governance, and strategic management of media and communication systems. Furthermore, the program is designed to cultivate a critical understanding of media systems, strategic communication practices, regulatory and ethical frameworks, and the role of emerging technologies in shaping institutional, commercial, and societal communication.

The integrated curriculum combines conceptual depth with applied engagement, enabling graduates to critically interpret media structures and professional practices, design and evaluate communication strategies, and respond effectively to multifaceted challenges arising within evolving communication ecosystems. Moreover, the MA provides a robust foundation for further scholarly research and progression to doctoral study in media and communication fields.

Program’s Learning Outcomes

In line with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF – Level 7), upon successful completion of the program graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of media and communication management, including the ability to analyse media systems, institutional structures, and strategic communication practices within diverse socio-political and economic contexts.
  • Critically evaluate strategic communication processes, including public relations, branding, and media management, using theoretical frameworks and applied analytical tools.
  • Assess regulatory, ethical, and governance challenges affecting present-day media environments, including issues of accountability, public interest, and corporate social responsibility.
  • Analyse the impact of digital platforms, datafication, and artificial intelligence on media production, distribution, and audience engagement.
